The label availability record

The Radar reads every label’s own store each morning and writes down the day a disc stops being buyable there. 3 watched sell out at the label, 3 of them before the disc was even released.

Blu-ray.com tells you it’s coming. The Radar tells you it’s going.

The Radar reads thirty-five label shops, GRUV and Barnes & Noble every night and tells everyone what it found. Plus tells you first, before anyone else hears — a preorder opening, a disc running low, a label going on sale, and a disc you want going on sale anywhere the Radar reads — and takes the cap off your lists.

Hear it firstAn extra read of the shops, before the round everyone gets.

Plus buys the Radar a second look at the shops, earlier, and tells you what that one found. Nothing is taken away from anybody to do it — the free round, the page and the calendar feed go out exactly when they always did. Plus is an alert that arrives before them, not one that arrives instead. By push, by email, or both: never allowed notifications? Every alert can come as one email a day instead — or as well. Set it on this page once you have Plus.

Running low, where we can see the shelfWith the number, and whose number it is.

When a shop publishes its count — DiabolikDVD’s low-stock number, Lionsgate Limited’s unit counter — you hear it, with the number and whose number it is. Where a shop shows nothing, we say nothing. And on the film sheet, for this label: how many of its discs have sold out at the label since the Radar started watching, and how many days before street date they typically went — measured by the out-of-print ledger, never estimated.

Your labels: sales, new releases, datesThe morning a label you follow opens a sale or lists something new.

A push the morning a label you follow opens a sale, scoped to your filter or to the labels on your list — and a push naming any disc on your list that goes on sale, with the price, wherever the Radar can see it. When a label you follow lists something new, you hear the same morning, with the format and the run size where the label states one. Bell an announced title that has no date yet, and you hear the morning it gets one — which is the morning preorders open. Your calendars, with your labels’ sales in them, and the sale strip on the Radar stay free.

Price drops on your alertsThe old price, the new one, and where.

Every disc’s sheet shows what it has cost since the Radar started watching it — the lowest we have seen, and what it was first listed at — and belling a disc means you hear when it gets cheaper: a real cut at the label, or a lower price at another seller, with the old price, the new one, and where. Today’s price is free for everyone.

Price alerts, checked every nightAlready-out discs; told when one hits your price.

Discs that are already out, which is where the sales are. Search anything gruv.com or a label store sells, set a price alert in Alerts on your My list page, and name the price you would pay. Every night the Radar prices it again; you hear the night it goes on sale or lands under your price, with the seller and the link. The list and tonight’s prices are free for everyone; the alert is Plus.

No cap on your listsFree keeps alerts on 10 discs and ten price alerts.

Free keeps alerts on up to 10 discs at a time (a bell frees itself when its disc ships or sells out) and ten price alerts. Plus takes as many alerts as you like, across every catalog and both lists.

Nothing is taken away from the free Radar to make Plus. The page, the free round and the calendar feed go out exactly when they always did — Plus is an alert that arrives before them, not one that arrives instead.

MikeFrom Mike

There is no company behind this. I am one collector who got tired of finding out a limited run had sold out from a group chat, so I built the Radar for myself — nights and weekends, a lot of them — and then kept building it for everyone who collects the way I do. It reads thirty-five label shops every night, keeps no account and shows no ads, and it can stay that way if enough collectors think an early heads-up is worth less than a coffee a month. If the Radar has ever saved you a disc, Plus is how you keep it running, and how it keeps getting better. Thank you for being here. — Mike

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. Radar Plus attaches to the same random code this browser already uses for its calendar and alerts. Stripe keeps your email and card; this site keeps neither. If you ask for the alerts by email as well, that address is kept on this browser’s own code and nowhere else, and clearing the box removes it.

I cleared my browser, or got a new phone.

Ask for a link below with the email you gave Stripe — it works once, for thirty minutes, on whichever device opens it. Your list does not travel with it yet. One subscription is good for up to four devices at a time; a fifth takes the place of the oldest, and from any device that has Plus you can sign the others out with one tap.

How do I cancel?

Both plans start with 14 days free, and you are first charged when they are up unless you cancel before then. Cancel from the Manage link this page shows once Plus is on. You keep Plus to the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again.

Does it work on iPhone?

Yes. Alerts arrive as notifications, and on iPhone a web page can send them only once it is on your Home Screen: open the Radar in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, then turn alerts on. Or have every alert come by email instead.

What stays free?

Everything on the page: every catalog, search and film sheet, today’s price, Mike’s picks, the Tuesday digest, your calendars. The table above has the whole list. Plus changes when you hear and how many alerts you can set, never what is on the page.

The terms, in plain words

Radar Plus is a subscription to the Radar’s alerts, sold and billed by Stripe in US dollars and renewed automatically until you cancel. Both plans start with 14 days free: the card is taken at checkout and first charged when the 14 days are up, unless you cancel before then. Cancel any time from the Manage link this page shows once Plus is on; you keep Plus to the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again. Partial periods are not refunded, but if something is broken on our side, write and it will be put right. Alerts are best effort. This site reads the label shops and the retailers with the tools and methods it has and sends every alert as soon as it can, but none of it is guaranteed: a label can sell out between two readings, a price can move before the next look, a shop that shows no count gets no running-low warning, and a push service or a phone that is offline delivers late or not at all. Plus buys you the earliest word this site can give, not a promise that nothing will be missed. The free Radar, the calendar feed and the free alerts do not depend on Plus and are not going anywhere. Prices can change for new subscribers; an existing subscription keeps its price until it is canceled.
